The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area is seeing a boom in local, brick-and-mortar retail. This success of local retailers in the 10th largest metropolis in the U.S. shows a glaring contrast to the desperation of retail in other communities.

Retail Heating Up in Texas

In the past year, nearly 10 million square feet of retail space has opened in the major cities in Texas. Retail is so hot in DFW that it encompasses 24% of the commercial real estate and 12% of the jobs. Houston is next to DFW when it comes to retail space, proving that the death of retail is only a rumor in the big cities of Texas.

Retail Succeeding in DFW

According to CBRE, commercial retail real estate currently has around 95% occupancy rate in the DFW area. Apart from the high occupancy rate, retail is also expected to see positive results from over 130,000 new residents who moved to the area in 2017 and 2018 and a low unemployment rate of 3%. These factors are expected to stir more activities in the retail economy as all the occupied spaces need to be staffed by employees.

Undeniably, retail is booming in DFW. This is good news for people who want a job in a major metropolis. The retail industry is currently creating more demand for workers in the area. So, now's a great time for anyone looking for work and willing to move to DFW to chase opportunities.

Exciting Development in the Big D

Although nearly all of the retail space is already filled in the DFW area, more retail-related construction is still on the rise, with over 2.5 million square feet being developed. This proves that brick-and-mortar businesses are doing quite well in DFW despite the changing retail preferences because of tech.

One of the retail areas that's captivating residents and potential employees is Grandscape mixed-use development. Located in The Colony, Grandscape is the brainchild from the experts at Berkshire Hathaway. The mixed-use development allocates its over 3.9 million square feet to retail, residential, dining, and more. All of this space needs residents and employees. This mixed-use development will become a model for other cities looking to draw new residents.
